This book is deals with the last 6 months of existence of the Auschwitz death camp. It focuses on the political, military, and economic conditions within the Third Reich and their influence on the concentration camp. The book presents the evacuation and liquidation of the camps, transports and Death Marches, and the work of the Soviet Commission for the Investigation of Fascist German Crimes. The set up and running of a hospital at the former camp by the Polish Red Cross is also presented. The book contains numerous accounts by prisoners of their experiences during the last days of the camp and after liberation, and also by physicians and nurses who saved the lives of sick prisoners.
